About COSTA’s Safety Council Chair: Frank Baio worked at DMV for 25 years and is currently the Assistant Vice President for Safety and Risk Management at DATTCO. Frank is also very involved with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA), and has been a part of the Safety Council for years.

Safety Council Members/Guests: Safety Council attendees generally include representatives from CT DMV, COSTA staff and lobbyist, and a great mix of current members of COSTA, including school bus companies, private schools, BOE members, student transportation companies, Master Instructors, Trainers, and occasional special guests.

The purpose of these meetings is to update members on activities and procedures at DMV related to driver safety and licensing, as well as vehicle registrations and inspections. Representatives from COSTA and CT DMV provide updates on timely topics, as well as legislative updates, and updates from FMCSA and CT DOT.

The Council is a great resource to keep us all aware of student transportation-related news. There is always a question and answer period before the end of each meeting where members can ask questions of the Council, whose members represent a wealth of knowledge with many years of combined experience.
